Credit Card

In Korea, the use of cards is becoming more prevalent than cash. Most retail outlets accept cards from major providers such as Visa and MasterCard, but there may be exceptions for certain card companies. It's advisable to contact both your credit card company and the specific store for detailed information.

Electricity

Korea operates on a standard voltage of 220V, with a frequency of 60 Hz. The plug features two round pins and shares the same design used in numerous European, South American, and Asian countries. If you don't have the appropriate plug, you can purchase one at a duty-free shop or a convenience store within Incheon International Airport.

VAT & Tipping

  • Tax: A value-added tax (VAT) at a standard rate of 10% is applied to the majority of goods and services in Korea, and it's already included in the retail price.
  • Tipping: Tipping is not a common practice in Korea. A 10% service charge is often automatically added to your bill at upscale restaurants and hotels. Tipping taxi drivers is not necessary unless they assist you with luggage or provide additional services.
